What's the difference?

On my way in to work this morning, I was thinking how lucky I am to have a job I love. I work with an awesome staff and I couldn’t ask for a better member experience in serving you. When I first started out here as a teller in 1980, little did I know that I would still be serving members 28 years later! I feel comfortable knowing that our philosophy is doing the right thing for the member and the credit union. It’s that simple. I know why I chose Spokane Federal Credit Union both as an employer and as my financial institution, but why would you? I went on the internet and searched for the words “Spokane Banks” and “Financial Institutions.” WOW! There were a lot of hits and you have a lot of choices as a consumer. What makes us different? The first difference is easy. As a credit union we are a not-for-profit, democratic, financial cooperative owned by its members with an all volunteer board of directors (elected by you). Banks derive profits from their customers. The business of the bank is to earn a return for shareholders. The bank’s job is to boost profits and it drives the bottom line of every decision they make. Our business is you. We’re “not for profit, not for charity, but for service.” We’re here to serve our members, not shareholders. Our earnings are returned to you in the form of lower loan rates, competitive interest on deposits and lower fees. Our fees are used to help cover the cost of providing products and services. How else are we different and better? Not everyone can join Spokane Federal Credit Union. Our field of membership is exclusive and limited to a common bond. Our energy and involvement is specific to things that you care about in your job and daily lives – like volunteering at SCRAPS fundraisers, for instance. We’re here to be an exceptional service provider, whether that means quick, efficient service when you’re in a hurry, listening when you need help to solve a problem or just taking a moment to share in celebrating a special time in your life. We care and we do the right thing. That’s why I’m here 28 years later. Thanks for being a member and owner of one of the best places around.
