Welcome to your Spokane Federal Credit Union Visa® chip card
Now with chip technology
Ready to go
Retailers in the U.S. are adopting chip technology, also known as EMV (which stands for Europay, MasterCard and Visa) or smart chip technology. We've updated our cards so you'll be up-to-date. This technology has become the global standard for processing credit and debit card payments. Various credit card companies may refer to chip cards differently, but they all function to help keep your card more secure.
Easy to use
The retailers that have adopted this technology, have terminals that will prompt you to insert your card. Otherwise, you'll swipe your card’s magnetic stripe as usual. Online and phone purchases work the same way they do today.
A chip card contains an embedded microchip that encrypts card member information and creates unique transaction data each and every time you use it. This significantly increases transaction and account data security when used at chip-enabled terminals in stores and at ATMs, and makes card cloning and fraud more difficult.
What you need to know if you've received a chip card to replace your old Spokane Federal Credit Union Visa credit or debit card:
- Activate and sign your new card right away. Be sure to destroy your old card to prevent fraudulent use.
- This replaces your other card – your chip card will have a new card number and expiration date, but your PIN will remain the same.
- Contact any businesses that regularly bill your card to update them with your new card information.
