#CUobsessed. Why Credit Unions Make a Big Difference.

February 15, 2018 • General News

There are two things that credit unions are obsessed with. One: to provide members with the best possible financial products and services, while offering personalized, hands-on customer care and providing fast, secure technology. Our second obsession is close to our hearts as well. We’re obsessed with community. We come together as a community of credit unions and members. We support the communities we live and work in, and the campaigns and organizations that help to improve lives, create opportunities, and enhance the quality of life for everyone.

Troy Stang, CEO of the Northwest Credit Union Association puts it this way, “There are two kinds of people in the world. People who are credit union members, and people who should be.” It’s Stang’s goal (and one that our team passionately shares) to increase credit union membership from 50% of consumers in the region to 75%. The reason is simple — credit unions are different. We’re owned by our members, not stockholders or “too big to fail” customers. We not only provide outstanding financial services, but the knowledge and training necessary to help our customers succeed and grow. And beyond our business purpose, credit unions have a social purpose — we’re people helping other people and supporting our communities.

Coming Together With Purpose

In just the past year, we’ve partnered with a number of other local credit unions to support a variety of causes including:

The Ninety Wine Event — a fundraiser supporting the Children’s Miracle Network that grossed nearly $35,000 this year.
Project Beauty Share  — local credit unions came together to fill more than 500 gift bags with beauty and hygiene products to help support women in need right here in our community.
Volunteers of America’s Crosswalk Teen Center — local credit unions raised $20,000 to help support this essential resource in Downtown Spokane.

We’d like to invite you to join us in being #CUobsessed. And if you know someone who isn’t a member, but really should be we’d like to invite you to help us introduce them to the credit union difference at Spokane Federal Credit Union
