Scholarship Winners!

Each year we have the pleasure of awarding two scholarships. We received a record number of applications this year and there were many amazing candidates. However, we did have to make a decision and after pouring through all of the candidates, two in particular stood out.

We are pleased to announce that the 2014 SFCU scholarship winners are Joseph Hall and Robbin Beach!

Joseph has been awarded a scholarship that is new to the Credit Union this year. For the first time ever, we were able to name one of our scholarships after a true American hero, Matthew Stiltz.Matthew died on November 12, 2012 while performing his duties as part of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. We honor Matthew's sacrifice by giving out a scholarship in his name.

Joseph plans to attend WSU (Go Cougs!) in the fall to study BioEngineering. Joseph's favorite movies are the Lord of the Rings series and his favorite charity is Toys for Tots. When asked what a college education means to him, he answered:

"With the opportunity to be more educated, I believe there is a better means to understand problems, and then be able to help with them in the best way possible."

We also gave out a second scholarship which was awarded to Robbin, who attends SCC and is studying Health Information Management. In Robbin's essay, she strongly emphasized her community involvement. She's volunteered for many agencies including the Spokane Civic Theatre and Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Upon hearing that she won, the first people she told were her two daughters. She said, "They are both very supportive of my educational goals and I knew they would be thrilled for me."

We are so proud of our scholarship winners for working hard and encouraging the importance of education in all ages.
