What "Friends and Family for Life" Means To Me

A view from the other side of the teller line.

“At Spokane Federal Credit Union, it is our mission to deliver exceptional, personal service to our member owners. It's something we take very seriously and we work hard to show our members how much we care, each and every day.” –www.spokanefederal.com

SFCU lives by this mission and recognizes it as the strongest driver of company success. Our members are more than accounts – they are friends and family who are valued and appreciated.

From providing free cookies on Spokane County paydays, to giving away free toys to children, to offering dog biscuits to canine visitors, to sending hand-written cards to members, we work to impress our members with every interaction. Because SFCU’s slogan, “Family and Friends for Life” is not just a motto; it’s a reality.

At Spokane Federal Credit Union, net gains are important to the bottom line, but our reputation and satisfied members are much more important to us. Without happy members, the net gains have no purpose.

SFCU also recognizes the importance of happy, satisfied employees. Richard Branson, the billionaire entrepreneur who founded Virgin Group, once said, “Train your people well enough so they can leave, treat them well enough so they don’t have to.” SFCU embraces this philosophy. They constantly recognize and reward employees for good work, celebrating even the smallest of victories.

SFCU cultivates a culture that is fun and relaxed. For example, SFCU celebrated Cereal Day by providing free milk and cereal to employees, participated in an informal betting pool for NCAA March Madness, and awarded CDs with iTunes hits when goals are met. We also have frequent “dress-down days,” when employees don comfortable logo wear and jeans.

In addition, SFCU highly values employee growth and development. Employees can aquire education and are encouraged to advance to any position that fits their goals. Many of those who serve in member service, the back offices, or management started out as tellers on the front line and eventually climbed their way up the ladder to their current positions.

As a company, SFCU is all about its people. It recognizes that satisfied members and fulfilled employees are the most important assets of all.
