Remember the good old fashioned “Ice Cream Social”? We all gathered around, enjoyed a generous serving of ice cream, and talked about what was happening in our exciting lives. Well, those ice cream socials seem to have been replaced….with a digital serving of hot fudge sundaes!
In our modern society, technology seems to be improving at an unprecedented pace. With the advancements in technology such as tablets, mobile phones and other mobile computing devices, we now have the ability to communicate and interact via real time applications, otherwise known as Social Media Platforms. According to Pew Research Center, around 73% of adults use social media in one way or another. This is an astonishing number, especially as the use of Social Media is still growing and new platforms are being developed by the hour.
At Spokane Federal Credit Union, we always do our best to ensure that our members have the information they need, when they need it, and in the most effective way possible. Over the past year, SFCU has developed a presence on Facebook and enjoyed many great conversations with our members in real time. In addition to reaching 500 likes, we have been able to use the platform as a way to communicate important news, have a little bit of fun, and inspire our followers to appreciate our community. Facebook has been a great platform for us and we look forward to continuing our use of the popular network.
Now, however, the time has come to expand our social media presence and provide more ways for you, our members, to communicate with us. We recently created profiles on a few new social media websites that will allow us to share even more fun and useful information with you. SFCU now has social media profiles on Google Plus, YouTube, Twitter, Foursquare, LinkedIn, Instagram and Pinterest. You might be wondering what all of these are? Let us explain.
Google Plus- is a social network managed through Google. Google Plus allows users to share pictures, status updates and other relevant information within certain groups and to followers. Google Plus is similar to Facebook, but reaches a different group of users.
YouTube-YouTube is the video powerhouse of the World Wide Web. According to ask.com, YouTube currently serves over ONE BILLION videos per day. YouTube allows users to upload, share, and view videos of all sorts through their website.
Twitter-is an online social networking site that enables users to send and read short 140-character text messages, called "tweets". Twitter is great for up-to-the-minute information.
Foursquare-Foursquare is a free app that helps you and your friends make the most of where you are. When you're out and about, use Foursquare to share and save the places you visit. Don’t forget to check in when you get to the Credit Union.
LinkedIn-LinkedIn is a social networking website for people in professional occupations.
Instagram-Instagram is an online photo-sharing, video-sharing and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, apply digital filters to them, and share them on a variety of social networking services.
Pinterest-Pinterest is a visual discovery tool that people use to collect ideas for their different projects and interests. People create and share collections (called “boards”) of visual bookmarks (called “Pins”) that they use to do things like plan trips and projects, organize events or save articles and recipes.
So please join us for the new version of an “Ice Cream Social”. We love connecting with you.
